Back to School...

It's that time of year again. We had another great summer filled with LittleGym, soccer, storytime at the library, playdates at the park, zoo visits, and weekend trips to the cabin. It is hard to go back to work and not get to spend every second with my angel.

Welcome Fall...

Soccer

Soccer has always been a huge part of my life. I started playing when I was about 5 years old. Every fall Saturday morning I was out on the field kicking butts and taking names. I continued to play through Middle School and High School, which to be honest was the main reason I stayed involved in school and academics. All of my best friends were from my soccer teams. My coach was a huge inspiration in my life. My parents supported me 100%, driving me to and from practices and coming to each and every one of my games. I was captain of my high school team for two years and moved on to play at community college where I was a captain of that team for two years as well. Admittedly, I'm not in the best of shape anymore and haven't stepped foot on a field in a few years, but I'm still a huge fan of the sport. Rarely will I miss a Sounders game or USA women's game on TV.

You can imagine how excited I was to get Makenna out on the field. I've always hoped that my children would love soccer and have always pictured myself coaching their teams.

Well, I guess we will have to wait and see if soccer is Makenna's thing. As of right now, eh. It is hit or miss. Some practices she did really well and followed directions. Others, well, all she cared about was running off to the playground. She sure was cute dressed in her gear though!

Smores!

I tried my hardest to pass on my love for smores to Makenna...

but she wasn't too excited about cooking them...

She cried when the marshmallow turned golden brown...

or black...

I might have the only kid on Earth who doesn't like to eat smores, but she will happily eat a raw marshmallow and graham cracker (separately).

My little HAM!

I was playing around with my camera tonight while Makenna was playing around with her toys. She wasn't really paying much attention to me....

I asked her to look at mommy so that I could take her picture...

She gave me this:

and this:

lol. Every time I snapped a photo, she would run over to look at the screen to see "kenna's picture." I think she is getting used to having a camera in her face all of time ;)

Big girl bed

We made the switch from crib to toddler bed, after Makenna figured out she could climb her way out. She gave us a scare when we heard her come crashing down out of the crib one evening when she decided she wasn't quite ready to go to sleep for the night.

That very night we converted her bed. And that week was awful, with little sleep for all of us....well at least for me and Makenna (Mike seemed to do okay sleeping through all of the wake ups ;)

The first few nights she was constantly getting out of bed and we could only get her to fall asleep hours after her normal bedtime (when she basically just zonked out on her own). I decided to go the "Super Nanny" route and sit by her door, watching the video monitor, and putting her back into bed every.single.time she got out.

After a week or two she decided that she liked her bed and started sleeping great, although still waking up an hour earlier than she did when she was in the crib. We were doing great! .....and then daylight savings time came and now we are back to square one. Wish us luck on getting back to our routine. Sleep, baby, sleep!

Here are some funny pictures of Makenna and her new bed:

Ever since the switch, she no longer wears pajamas. I have no clue why, but no matter what type of pjs I put her in, she takes them off as soon as I shut her bedroom door. I sneak back in and put a blanket on her every night now.

And one afternoon she started yelling and crying for me. I ran into her bedroom to find her completely stuck under the bed. It took a lot of effort to get her out!

Bike Riding

Auntie Brooke and Uncle Boe gave Makenna a super cool big girl bike for her 2nd birthday. The bike doesn't have training wheels or peddles. It is supposed to help kids learn how to balance and steer without having to do the peddling part too. Makenna is warming up to it, but doesn't feel completely comfortable on it yet. She is, however, a big fan of her "special hat" aka helmet.

Thanks Brooke and Boe!

Here are a few more pictures from our first trip out to the cabin in 2011. Still really cold, but oh so fun!

Look who's TWO!

My baby girl is officially a big girl now! It is amazing to see how much she's grown in the past year both physically and cognitively. Words can't begin to describe how much we love this little sweetie. Makenna is our entire world. I am so incredibly thankful to be her mommy.

The day of her party we decided she needed a little hair cut. Her hair was starting to get ratty with the wispy baby curls and it was all really uneven. I have to admit, I was not exactly thrilled with the results of her hair cut (it was hard seeing those curls go), but it is growing out really nicely and I think she looks cuter than ever.

We had her birthday at The Little Gym. Makenna loved it. She knew she was the star of the show and really made sure she was the center of attention. She loved running around with all of her friends and we all had a great time.
