What a difference a month can make...

We started Makenna on rice cereal at 5.5 months. Our Pediatrician told us we could start anytime after her four month appointment, but we figured we would wait until she was showing signs that she was ready to start solids. Makenna started getting very interested in the food we were eating. She also started drooling, sitting on her own, and waking more during the night which are all "signs" that she was ready to try some food.

Well, our first attempt didn't go so well. She gagged.

We continued to try cereal for a week and a half, with no success. She gagged so much, she made herself throw up :( We decided to wait a couple of more weeks to see if she would be more ready.

We tried again at 6 months. We offered bananas, apples, pears, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Still not successful. She would turn her head and close her mouth tight.

Slowly, she started taking a bite here and there. I sat and ate apple sauce while I fed her. She thought that was fun because she was getting the same stuff as mommy. I ate Mac and Cheese when feeding her sweet potatoes so she would think it was the same as mommy's again.

At 6.5 months we are finally successful! She is now an eating champ! I love how she leans her head forward and up when she wants another bite. It also cracks me up when she goes cross-eyed while looking at the spoon coming towards her mouth.

I was so worried that she would NEVER eat! It is such a relief to see her enjoying some yummy goodness. Now I need to start making/freezing homemade baby food!
